The New Maynard Gallery was opened in 2001 and is a partnership between the Trust; Welwyn Garden City Art Club; Welwyn Garden City Photographic Club and Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council who provide the physical gallery space and other in-kind support.

Running the Gallery

The gallery is run by a committee of volunteers from the partners who choose the artists, plan the exhibition programme, market the exhibitions and hang the shows. Artists are charged a commission on sales but otherwise all the artists have to provide is the artwork. The WGC Art Club and the WGC Photographic Club each have an annual exhibition. Currently the gallery is booked up until mid 2011. more…

Open Exhibition

There is also an annual Open exhibition in October where any artist can apply to exhibit up to three works on payment of a fee currently £5. About 15 % of applications are rejected mainly for reasons of space in the gallery. The gallery awards a variety of prizes provided by sponsors and holds an annual Winners exhibition in July each year.

Full details of dates and how to apply are give on the entry form click here

Large Works

The gallery has recently become able to hang one large 2D work on a staircase adjacent to the main gallery space. It can accommodate works up to 4 metres wide and 3 metres high provided they can be delivered to the space through normal sized double doors.

Applying for an Exhibition

Artists wishing to apply to exhibit should look at the gallery plan more... and conditions of use more… and then send a CV and images to Sheila Woolf TEL 01438 714485 or email rogerwoolf@sky.com

Artists can apply for the whole gallery or only part. There are three cabinets for 3D work which presents a limitation on size for such work.
